Grid Information Retrieval (GIR-WG)

Grid Information Retrieval (GIR) is a GGF initiative, within  the Information Systems and Performance (ISP) Working Area.

The GIR WG will establish a specific set of requirements, an architecture, and detailed specifications for a particular Information Retrieval (IR) system on the OGSA Grid.
GIR will provide document collection management, indexing/searching, and query processing services to OGSA grid users and applications.

GRACE and GIR have a similar approach regarding architecture, in particular share the same attitude towards GRID invocation and WSRF initiative.

While GRACE more powerful as far as Multilingualism and Semantics / Ontologies are concerned, GIR is more aligned with GGF/OASIS evolution.

By the the end of project  complete gap analysis between GRACE and Grid IR will be provided.
