Grid Installation and Configuration

GRACE test bed adopts LCG middleware in the version provided by INFN (currently release INFN-GRID 2.2.0) and is configured to work with GILDA Infrastructure.

In the following, instructions are provided for setting up a GRACE compliant grid test bed and for joining GILDA grid infrastructure. Therefore, where required, the instructions will point to the relevant web sites.
Further information is available on INFN Production Grid and GILDA web sites.

Instructions for Users

In order to install/use the Grid, you need valid certificates, issued by a recognised Certification Authority (CA).
Each country has a CA: a list is provided in http://marianne.in2p3.fr/datagrid/ca/ca-table-ca.html.
To be able to request a Certificate to the CA, you have to identify yourself to the "Registration Authority" (RA) in your organization.
To be authorized to submit jobs you have then to register to a Virtual Organization: a Virtual Organisation (VO) is a kind of user group working on the same project and using the same application software on the grid.

As GRACE relies on GILDA services, to access the GILDA testbed you can request a Personal Certificate to GILDA Certification Authority.
GILDA CA issues 14-days X.509 certificates to everybody wanting to experience grid computing on the GILDA Testbed.
You have then to register as a user belonging to the GILDA Virtual Organisation.

Step 1: Get your GILDA CA personal certificate (external link to GILDA)

Step 2: Register to the GILDA Virtual Organization (external link to GILDA)

Instructions for Sites

A minimal configuration requires the following grid elements:

  • LCFGng server (1 machine)
  • Storage Element (1 machine with a big disk)
  • Computing Element (1 machine)
  • Worker Nodes (N machines, where N is >= 1 or 2)
  • User Interface (1 machine, optional)

Then follow the instructions below for the site installation and configuration:

       Step 1: Requirements

Step 2: Install your LCFGng server

       Step 3: Install your site
